Brown was found not guilty on four of the 22 total charges.
Brown, who served in Congress from 1993 up until this year, pled not guilty to the charges. At issue was her relationship with the One Door Educational Foundation and the use of dollars from the organization prosecutors said was for Brown's personal gain.
Four of Brown's 22 counts are related to her taxes: one count of corruptly endeavoring to obstruct or impede the due administration of the Internal Revenue Laws and three counts of filing a false USA individual tax return for tax years 2012, 2013 and 2014.
The jury has been deliberating since Monday afternoon, whether former Rep. Corrine Brown stole more than $140,000 from a sham charity she helped set up.
"We feel strongly that we need to make an inquiry", said U.S. Attorney's Office prosecutor Tysen Duva. When asked for his thoughts about the proceedings, he claimed that while a win would have been ideal, the congresswoman and her supporters could rest easy knowing that Brown has a legal team that cares very much for her and will continue to do whatever it takes to fix what happened today.
Brown left the courtroom quietly, with her head hanging slightly, a contrast to the flamboyant and often bombastic style she used for years in confrontations with political opponents and the media.
One juror in Brown's trial was dismissed Wednesday after repeatedly making references to "higher beings".
Smith II, left, attempts to clear a path as his client, former Congresswoman Corrine Brown, center, leaves the Bryan Simpson United States Courthouse after another day of jury deliberation. Her attorney said he would file motions for a new trial.
Smith pointed to the case of former Virginia Gov. She also says she didn't know her chief of staff was putting thousands into her account and taking well over $100,000 for himself.
One legal expert says it's a very unusual situation, but jurors need to follow the law.
Corrine Brown, who had a historic career spanning almost 25 years representing Florida in Congress, had the verdict handed down against her on Thursday.
Brown also is charged with lying on her taxes about charitable donations the government said she never made, and falsifying her congressional financial disclosure forms. Our lives are films, and you have to look at each and every frame.
Characterized as a defender for those in her district, she had a reputation for doing what she said she would.
