Barth was released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon.
"He spent some time in NH down the homestretch of the primary helping us with GOTV", National Republican Congressional Committee press secretary Jesse Hunt, also an alum of the Bush campaign, wrote in an email Wednesday morning. Barth is a University of Texas graduate and Junior Legislative Correspondent for Congressman Williams.
"Without the Capitol Police, we probably would not be here today", Williams said.
Two Capitol Police officers, identified as special agents David Bailey and Crystal Griner, were wounded while protecting Scalise. He said he has that slot because his roommate, U.S. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisana, beat him out for second base.
"I got shot this morning at the baseball fields but I am in the hospital and okay", he wrote.
Williams, a former resident of Weatherford who still owns a auto dealership in the city, also suffered an ankle injury when he leaped into a dugout as he sought to escape the gunfire.
Three other people were shot, as well as the gunman, who later died, but things would have been worse if the gunman had figured out how to get past the fence surrounding the field in Alexandria, Virginia, Williams said.
Barth was expected to recover, Williams said; the officers are expected to make full recoveries.
His boss, Representative Roger Williams from Austin, dove for cover in that same dugout.
While the incident clearly shook Williams, his message was a positive one.
It was a batting practice for a team made up of congressional members. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., removed his belt, which Williams used as a tourniquet to stanch the bleeding from Barth's leg wound.
On Wednesday, a Texas reporter covering Washington D.C. talked to News Channel 25 about the aftermath of the shooting at a baseball field in Virginia.
Williams also injured his ankle during the shooting.
Officers Griner and Bailey shot Hodgkinson, fatally wounding him.
Many political leaders said an attack on one of them is an attack on them all and this attack will not stop them from coming together this year.
'I think it's important, because these people who want to destroy our lives or our livelihood here in America, they win when we give in. As a result, Williams injured his right ankle, knee and foot, for which he was later treated at an Alexandria hospital. If you punch us, we are going to punch back. "I'm ... thankful to God for keeping us safe with the bravery of these Capitol Police".
But Brady added another chilling piece of luck: The team's pitchers skipped Wednesday's practice to avoid wearing out or injuring their arms ahead of Thursday night's big game.
But we're going to play, we need to play - this is a game that's been going on for over 100 years, it goes to charity, we need to play this baseball game, ' he said.
