Indian team captain Mithali Raj created history by becoming the first worldwide player to touch 6000 ODI run marks in women's cricket. However, as she also added, she was constantly being reminded by the fans and others before the crucial match against Australia that she was just 34 runs short of becoming the highest scorer in women's ODIs and 42 runs short of the 6,000-mark. With this feat not only does Raj top the charts among players across the globe but she has also moved way ahead in comparison with her Indian counterparts ( in terms of runs scored in ODIs).
She tops the woman's batting table with 703 ratings.
Earlier, in the match, after losing two early wickets, India was put on test by Australia but the partnership of Mithali Raj and Punam Raut gave he much needed partnership. Following the victory, skipper Meg Lanning stated that her side is focused on the next game rather than thinking about the semi-final. They will now have to beat New Zealand in their final group game on Sunday to make it through to the semi-final of an ICC event for the first time since 2010. Mithali, at 34, is fit enough to lead the team from front and score runs constantly.
"We enjoy ourselves while we're out there", Lanning said on Wednesday. After a year or so, Sampath told that Mithali will not only go on to play for India but also break many records. "But the bowlers didn't look penetrative, it was a slow wicket". We backed the side we played against England.
Lanning and Perry then saw Australia home with just under five overs to spare.
By the time the 2009 World Cup came around, she had chose to quit the game after the tournament.
After a bright start against England in their opening game and winning easily against two Asian sub-continent opponents and a lowly West Indies, India's form dipped against South Africa.
After hitting a six at Kristen Beams' ball, Raj scored 6028 runs, scoring 49 half centuries and 5 centuries in ODI matches. The teenager was Mithali Raj and that knock of 114 made her the youngest ever ODI centurion.
"It seemed as though they were sort of creating a base to try and launch from towards the end but we were able to take wickets at regular intervals, which helped keep the total down to one we were pretty confident we could chase down". What if she gets an injury on her face, who will marry her?
