President Donald Trump's first wife, Ivana Trump, said in an interview that aired Sunday that President Donald Trump would not be who he is today if it weren't for her. She also claims she has a direct line to the White House, but doesn't call much, because, well, she doesn't want to make Melania jealous. "Because I'm basically first Trump wife, OK?"
"It was definitely me", she said.
Melania's spokeswoman fired back on Monday afternoon, saying, "Mrs. Trump is honored by her role as first lady of the United States".
When asked whether she or the President raised their children, Ivana Trump took the credit.
"There is clearly no substance to this statement from an ex, this is unfortunately only attention-seeking and self-serving noise", the First Lady's statement concluded.
Next week, Ivana Trump will publish Raising Trump, one of the most anticipated books of 2017.
Yet, at that point she unburdens herself about the anguish that Trump's undertaking with Maples caused her and the couple's three kids, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric. The two separated in the 1990's. Do you?' I said, 'Get lost.
Melania Trump, a native of Slovenia and former fashion model fluent in several languages, was rarely seen in the weeks after Mr Trump's inauguration, and was usually at her husband's side when she did appear in public. "Okay? I'm first lady".
She said: 'This young blonde woman approached me out of the blue and said "I'm Marla and I love your husband".
"I know that he was not involved at all in any wrongdoing", she said.
Though the first lady has previously said she has a "thick skin" and isn't bothered by criticism, it is clear that Ivana Trump's comments struck a nerve. She's going beyond cyberbullying, which she'd identified during the presidential campaign as an issue that she would tackle if her husband became president but on which she has yet to announce any formal plan of action. I like to do what I want to do, go wherever I want to go with whomever I want to go.
