This may seem like a very small issue to worry about but people were reacting so much over on the emoji that Pichai was forced to issue a statement. Apple, on the other hand, places the cheese slice above the patty. Android's 8.1 impending update included the new-and-improved burger, as well as several other emoji updates, which would make it the same as all other emojis.
The new version is basically replacing Google's version of the original emoji, which had the cheese set underneath the patty - a major "burger faux pas". But for now, I think the forgiving process can begin. Well, when your phone gets its Android 8.1 Oreo update that is.
When someone on Twitter called out Google for the cheese placement in the cheeseburger emoji, it sparked a little debate on whether cheese should be over or under the patty. The emoji used in Android had the cheese slice placed at the last, something which was incorrect.
Google fixes burger emoji
It was provoked by Twitter user Thomas Baekdal, who tweeted a screen shot of Apple and Google's burger emojis side by side, raising questions over where the cheese should go. They're also correcting a couple of emojis that have bothered some people because as we all know by now, emojis are serious business.
Android users can access the new burger emoji immediately if they're running the Android 8.1 developer preview; otherwise you'll have to wait for the public release of 8.1 due out later this year. The beer emoji has also undergone a slight makeover, as the mugs are now full instead of the previous partially-empty mugs. This was when the tech giant served Android burgers to staff at the beginning of November in its Seattle office.
As the Editor in Chief and founder of Emojipedia, as well as the creator of World Emoji Day, it was Burge's solemn duty to discover the second 8.1 developer preview finally fixes everything wrong with the most popular smartphone platform out there.
