"Fake News CNN made a vicious and purposeful mistake yesterday". Brian Ross should have not been taken off the Trump beat by ABC, but should have been fired outright for incompetence in his eagerness to further tarnish Michael Flynn.
Trump was referring to a Friday story in which CNN said Donald Trump, Jr., and other top Trump campaign officials had received an e-mail on September 4, 2016, that offered them a way to gain access to the allegedly hacked Democratic National Committee e-mails that WikiLeaks made available to the world on September 13, 2016. And it didn't take him long, as he used his Pensacola rally Friday night to take shots at the cable news channel as he sarcastically thanked CNN for issuing a correction. "Their slogan should be CNN, THE LEAST TRUSTED NAME IN NEWS!"
CNN later updated the story with a correction, saying its "initial reporting of the date on an email sent to members of the Trump campaign about WikiLeaks documents, which was confirmed by two sources to CNN, was incorrect".
In a second tweet, Trump wrote, "Their slogan should be CNN, THE LEAST TRUSTED NAME IN NEWS!"
After the story was published, The Washington Post obtained a copy of the email, which was actually sent to the Trump team on September 14, 2016, not September 4, a day after the documents were made public.
The network also said it would not pursue disciplinary action against Manu Raju, the congressional correspondent who reported on the story, because Raju had followed proper editorial guidelines and the story had been vetted before its publication.
In a tweet Saturday, the president also criticized ABC News and reporter Brian Ross for a recent, incorrect story that Trump, as a candidate in the 2016 White House race, had illegally instructed campaign member Mike Flynn to make contact with Russian Federation, in an apparent attempt to help defeat Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. News reports that the Grand Inquisitor, Robert Mueller, had subpoenaed Trump family records from Deutsche Bank turned out to be false. "They've been apologizing left and right".
"CNN apologized just a little while ago". "Oh, thank you CNN, thank you so much!" "You should have been apologizing for the last two years".
