With Bryan Singer gone, Fletcher has now stepped in.
Freddie Mercury "Bohemian Rhapsody" Biopic Director Fired was a Top 10 story on Tuesday: (Radio.com) Director Bryan Singer has responded to being fired from the forthcoming biopic about the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, "Bohemian Rhapsody". The studio was fed up with his unexplained absences, forcing cinematographer Thomas Newton Sigel to step in as the director more often than not.
Singer had been warned before production began by both Fox Film chairman and CEO Stacey Snider and Fox Film vice chairman and president of production Emma Watts that they wouldn't tolerate any unprofessional behavior on his part. While the star and director are said to have resolved their differences, the production, which has been shooting in London, was forced to shut down December 1 because of the director's absences.
It is believed that there are about two weeks' worth of shooting left, unless he decides to reshoot scenes, and it remains unknown what the director credit on the final film will be.
In a statement issued through his lawyer, Singer said he had asked for time off to deal with a "pressing" family matter.
The director continued, "This was a very taxing experience, which ultimately took a serious toll on my own health". Unfortunately, the studio was unwilling to accommodate me and terminated my services.
Neither Malek nor Singer have publicly commented on the film since Singer's departure and statement.
