Responding to the UK's refusal to grant Mr Assange diplomatic status, Ecuador's foreign minister Maria Fernanda Espinosa said: "No solution will be achieved without global co-operation and the co-operation of the United Kingdom, which has also shown interest in seeking a way out".
The UK has turned down a request from Ecuador to grant diplomatic status to Julian Assange - as a means of breaking a longstanding deadlock over his fate.
Following reports in Ecuadorean media that Mr Assange may have received citizenship, he posted a picture of himself on Twitter wearing an Ecuadorian football shirt on Wednesday.
The Ecuadorean government has confirmed that Julian Assange was granted Ecuadorean citizenship on 12 December.
"What naturalisation does is provide the asylum seeker another layer of protection", Espinosa said.
After five years of residency, the Ecuadorian government is actively working towards finding a way for Assange to finally vacate the building, although that can not happen without the UK's cooperation.
But a year ago, the Australian, 46, angered Ecuadorian president Lenin Moreno by tweeting support for Catalan separatists.
His website WikiLeaks published leaked intelligence from the United States and although it has not sought his arrest, Mr Assange is concerned the U.S. is still considering prosecuting him. The Ecuadorian government has granted him political asylum.
The UK has refused, saying Mr Assange - who has been at the embassy since 2012 - should now leave and "face justice". The WikiLeaks chief believes that the United States government is seeking his extradition and prosecution.
The US has never laid charges or sought his arrest for the publication of classified documents relating to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan on the WikiLeaks website. A whole coterie of left liberals and pseudo-left organizations have provided political cover for the state vendetta against Assange, seeking to legitimize the phony sexual misconduct charges against him, while tying him to the claims of Russian "meddling" in the 2016 U.S. election.
This sparks speculation that Assange is about to end his self-imposed exile.
